📰 New Weight Management Support in Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester is working on a new way to help adults manage their weight. This includes new medicine, better support, and fair access to treatment.

🧪 What’s New?

A new weight loss medicine called tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro®) has been approved in England. It helps reduce hunger and improves how your body uses food. You take it with a weekly injection.

This medicine is not yet available on the NHS in Greater Manchester—but it will be introduced step by step.

👩‍⚕️ Who Can Have It?

To use this medicine, patients must:

  • Have obesity and other health conditions.

  • Join a full support programme with advice on food, exercise, and healthy habits.

🗓️ When Will It Start?

The medicine will be rolled out across England slowly, starting with those who need it most.
NHS teams in Greater Manchester are getting ready now to offer it safely and fairly.

🌍 What Else is Changing?

NHS services are also mapping out all the different weight support programmes in the area. This means your GP can help you find the most suitable option for you.

✅ What You Can Do

  • Talk to your GP about weight management if you need support.

  • Ask about your BMI and what treatments might be available to you.

  • Look out for updates as the new service becomes available.
